Manual metering for street photography

Posted by Bryan Dunn on

Many street photographers use manual metering mode. If you are a novice photographer who is curious about manual metering, here’s how to do it. This method will make metering really easy for you.

Generally, if you point the camera toward an individual, the camera will try to mater for that respective individual’s skin. You can make use of this feature to do better street photography. Point the camera and the lens at your own hand and take a meter reading. Then, adjust the shutter speed, aperture and ISO values according to the meter reading. After that, you can change the exposure to match the type of the scene (either to match shadows or highlights). That’s it and now you can start photographing easily without worrying about metering anymore.
