Consider using a shade when taking portraits under natural light

Posted by Bryan Dunn on

When it comes to outdoor portraiture, you have the option of taking it under the shade or under full sunlight. In addition to that, some photographers try to combine both the shade and sunlight. However, the best outcome of a portrait can be achieved under shade as per the experts. The reason for such success when taking the portraits under shade is the consistency of the light.

If you use the combination of shade and light, you will have to meter it twice. On the other hand, when it comes to sunlight, you will get many shadows that might ruin the appearance of the portrait.

However, if you use a shade, you will get a really even lighting that is easy to work with. In the context of the exposure, you will have to do very little when you shoot under shade. In fact, a nice shade can provide something pretty similar to a softbox photo effect.
